For independent and prep schools

Pupil photos your marketing can keep using

Your prospectus, website and open-day material sell the school with real pupils, and consent doesn't last forever. Tap any pupil and they get a brand-new face in about 20 seconds, so the photo keeps working for admissions.

Everywhere admissions
needs a photo

The photos that sell the school travel a long way, and stay in print for years.

  • Prospectus

Print runs last years. Don't reprint because one family withdrew consent.

  • Website and open days

Keep hero images, galleries and open-morning slides current without a reshoot.

  • Social media

Fixtures, concerts, trips and boarding life, posted the same day without a consent spreadsheet.

  • Agents and overseas fairs

Brochures and decks that travel further than your own channels, with no real child's face in them.

Independent school pupils in England, 2025/26, to 560,300 (DfE)

The photography problem every admissions team has

A good professional shoot is expensive, and the best photos are usually of pupils in their final years. Within a year or two they've left, a family has asked for their child to be taken down, or a pupil arrives whose circumstances mean they can't be shown at all. The photos that sell the school best become the ones you can't use.

Safeguard Vision fixes that one face at a time. Tap the pupils who need to change and each gets a newly generated face with the same approximate age and expression, and a complexion matched to their own neck and hands. Everyone you don't tap stays exactly as they were.

It matters more than it used to. Since VAT was added to fees in January 2025, families compare schools harder, and the DfE's figures show independent school pupil numbers in England fell 3.8% to 560,300 in 2025/26 (DfE). Your marketing photos have to work hard, and for longer.

UK safeguarding advice · May 2026

Why identifiable pupil photos are now a risk

In May 2026 UK safeguarding bodies, including the National Crime Agency, the Internet Watch Foundation and the NSPCC, advised schools to stop publishing identifiable, face-on photos of pupils. Images taken from a UK school's website had been turned into AI-generated abuse images and used to blackmail the school. Independent schools publish more pupil imagery than most, and in more places.

The usual fix

Backs of heads, wide shots, blurred faces

That’s safe, but it undersells the school. Prospective parents want to see children who look happy to be there.

With Safeguard Vision

A new face for every pupil you tap

The photo keeps the eye contact and the smiles that make a family picture their child there, without any real child being identifiable.

Our guide sets out the advice and the law. Can schools post photos of children? →

Every pupil stays
in the picture

Leavers, withdrawn consent and pupils who can’t be shown at all: nobody has to be cropped out.

Pupils who can’t be photographed

Some pupils can't appear in public images at all: for protection reasons, because of a family's public profile, or because their family has simply asked. Cropping them out of a team photo or a house photo singles them out. Tap them instead, and they stay in the picture with a face that isn't theirs.

Consent, legitimate interests and leavers

Independent schools aren't public authorities, so unlike state schools they can sometimes rely on legitimate interests for marketing photos, after an assessment, rather than consent alone (DfE). Either way, families can object or withdraw, and pupils from about 13 should be asked directly. Replacing a pupil's face means a photo no longer shows that child, so you can keep using it when circumstances change.

questions

Can we keep using last year's professional shoot after pupils leave?

Yes. Upload the photos, tap the pupils who've left or whose families have withdrawn consent, and each gets a new face with the same age, expression and complexion. The uniform, the grounds and the moment stay exactly as they were.

Will it look like stock photography?

No. Only the faces you tap change. It's still your chapel, your boarding house and your first XV, photographed on the day, which is what prospective parents want to see.

We have pupils who can't be photographed at all. Does this help?

That's one of the main reasons schools use it. Pupils with security, safeguarding or family privacy needs can stay in the group photo with a face that isn't theirs, instead of being cropped out or left standing at the edge.

What will our bursar, DPO or DSL want to know?

Photos are processed only to anonymise them, never used to train AI, and deleted automatically after 48 hours (or after 7 days if you choose). We can provide a data processing agreement and DPIA notes. Email hello@safeguard-vision.com.

How do we pay?

Online by card when you buy a pack, and a receipt is emailed for your finance office. Nothing renews and photos never expire, so a pack bought for this year's prospectus covers next year's open day too.
